UPDATE

The Christ University Debate Society has had its platter full with tournaments for the past few months, and before we head into the big one at the end of the season, we thought we’d display our standings around or on the podium. However before we begin to pin up the laurels we’d like to thank Jake Mercer who headed back to his homeland last month, for being such an invaluable addition to our DebSoc however short the duration. We hope to collaborate with him in the future and wish him the greatest luck.
Starting with the Christ University Model United Nations - The First Inter Collegiate MUN to be held at and hosted by Christ University. The winners were Vipul Nanda, from the National Law School University Debate Society who stood first followed by Ajay Kumar and Jake Mercer of Christ DebSoc tieing at second place. The turnout included forty Christites, ranging from Pre-university levels to Degree seniors. Dipti Ramesh-the current president of the Debsoc chaired the event.
Next up was the RV Debate Tournament which saw our Dipti Ramesh, Shreya Kalra and Jake Mercer qualify to adjudicate the Semi-final round while Ajay Kumar chaired the quarter final round for the novice teams. The performance levels were sustained in the National Law School Debate Tournament as well where Dipti broke till the semi- final round and judged the novice quarter final round while Ajay judged novice semis. Our debate team comprising Kishore Kumar, Tanmoy Chakroborty and Prasad Subramaniam qualified for the quarter final round. The JIPMER conventional Debate competition was conquered by Tanmoy and Ajay who secured the First and Second position respectively.
In order to spur the dormant debaters in the university into stepping up to the podium, the Christ university Debsoc recently held a Conventional debating tournament , a somewhat unofficial battle cry for possible recruitment. The event was judged by two of our universities most well informed professors Prof. Suparna Kar and Prof. Padma Kumar, according to whose gauging newcomer Rajni Naik was awarded the first prize. We’d like to extend our congratulations and hope she continues the trend in future tournaments.

Dear Fellow's,

I recently heard about the progress you guys have been making towards organizing the next CUPD and I was really so glad, excited and pumped up for all of you. The friendships I have forged and the experiences I have had debating, working and having fun with all of you have defined my college experience. I think building, doing random things, leading, hanging out, thinking, blah blah, all of these textures of involvement & associations that have been a part of my process have solidified this foundation & grounding which I think cannot be replaced by any other experience in University. The Debating Society organically has been able to offer this realm of experience and at the same time has given access and promoted people to debate, travel, make friends, think and understand the world a little better than before.

I want you to take this forward. I want you to create that home of possibility a lot of us have experienced to consistently move forward. I want you guys to take the initiative and create value in the opportunities you see. I want you to stand up as young leaders and make things happen. It is now in your hands to ensure that the society grows stronger, significant and most importantly better than before. But at the same time remembering always the values of friendship, humility, "heads high and hearts strong" and all that goes with it that makes us the society we have always stood for.

I do miss all of you. You guys make an awesome team and I am sure all of you would do a fantastic job in putting up the next Christ University Parliamentary Debate. I wish you guys all of the very best and will post you a lot of luck via the Royal Mail.
